Running for the Sun

Our mom, Mary, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease at age 59. It was the time in her life when she should have been getting ready to enjoy retirement with our dad. It was the time to enjoy the weddings of her daughters and the birth of her grandchildren. The diagnosis blew us away. She was so young. Should we have seen the signs earlier? Did we act fast enough? What do we do now?

This blog is written by Mary’s daughters and it details our family’s journey through Alzheimer’s from the beginning, including helpful tips and support for those who also have a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease. We call this blog Run For the Sun, because that is what we have been trying to do since the diagnosis. Learning to march through loss, fear, and uncertainty with as much  joy as possible. Since our Mom’s diagnosis we sent our parents to Italy, went to a taping of the Ellen show, and have increased the frequency of our dance parties. We are going for it – enjoying life with our mom while we can.

If you are caring for someone who has Alzheimer’s disease, hopefully you can find that here, you are not alone.

If you know someone who has Alzheimer’s disease,  this site will help you learn how you can provide support to caregivers and those impacted by the disease.

However Alzheimer’s has impacted your life, please join us as we Run for the Sun.
